[Intl_DxMedPhys] US Artifact

Nima,

I think you're on the right track that environmental EMI is likely the cause of the artifact you're seeing.

Years ago, I dealt with a similar intermittent issue on Doppler exams that had never been a problem before. After investigation, we traced it to EMI from a remote cardiac monitoring system that had recently been installed in the adjacent area. The artifact only appeared when a monitored cardiac patient was present in that space and was only visible during Doppler imaging.

The problem resolved once construction in the cardiac area was completed and patients moved farther away reducing the EMI in the ultrasound room.

Thank you,

Obviously the artifact seems to be tied to beam steering because it changes direction with the box geometry.

But since it is showing up on multiple machines in the hospital, I suspect one of the following causes:

  *   environmental EMI
  *   software/firmware issue
  *   probe family issue
  *   network/power grounding problem
  *   shared configuration bug

Thoughts?
