[Intl_DxMedPhys] New Mandatory Reporting for Maryland Mammography

This looks like the "D" series mobile unit. I've seen one of these in the GE museum at Waukesha, WI. The black, rounded shape of the x-ray tube head (the "Coolidge tube" housing) and the cast-iron mechanical arm are the clues - classic 1940s-era shockproof engineering.

The "D" series was originally introduced during WWII, but several variants continued to be produced in the immediate post-war years.

Thanks,
Baojun

Hey List,

Wanted to share some interesting legislation related to mammography that I recently learned about. It's moving its way through the Maryland government, currently awaiting signature by the governor. If enacted, it would require mammography clinics to inform patients about Breast Arterial Calcification findings on their mammogram. Very similar to the breast density notifications currently in place. The rationale for this being that these specific types of calcifications could be an indicator of increased cardiovascular risk.

Mostly sharing this for awareness, in case this idea catches on in other states. If it does, maybe one potential avenue for the physics community to get involved with all this would be to develop a formal quantitative method for doing arterial calcium scoring in mammography.

Here's a Radiology Business article on the bill:

A couple of the breast radiologists I work with have written a letter in opposition to this bill, found here:
