[Intl_DxMedPhys] Seeking Daily CT and MR QC Automated Software

Hi Joe,

We use ZapIT daily for routine CT QC and all weekly MRI QC. The process is super simple – we have preset protocols for the tech to run daily (CT) which include automatic forwarding to a DICOM service which processes and then sends to ZapIT. In about 2 minutes, the tech can open a ZapIT session, run the daily water/uniformity test, and the results are populated from the analysis program. There is also full control to open and examine the images, with full DICOM headers and ROI/distance measurement tools for making manual verifications. It is platform agnostic (we send both GE and Siemens test images), and because in NJ we have to keep the images for 30 days we have permanent retention in ZapIT.

Process is the same for MRI and the analysis covers the whole suite of phantom tests, including transmitter gain and CF.

This has really been a benefit for our staff in time saving and consistency; I actual gave a talk about our experiences with at AAPM 2 weeks ago and showed how it even exports ACR-format QC logs same as is on the ACR website. And tech support is very fast, friendly and successful.

They do not, to my knowledge, have a nuc med solution at this time. But we use almost exclusively GE cameras, and our daily floods are analyzed on-camera with quantitative results. The staff just documents them in NMIS, so we don’t have a great need on the nuc side as it is fairly easy already (and the logging/reporting of long term QC results for the Discover-family scanners is not bad).

Hello list serv,

Do you know of any commercial software that does the following for Daily/Weekly QC:

  1.  Automatically processes the:

     *   ACR MRI phantom
     * Vendor specific CT QC phantoms. GE CT and Canon CT.
     * Daily QC DICOM save screens from our GE Gamma and PET scanners. It would be nice if the program could make direct measurements from the NM daily QC images.
     * Can add other phantoms as needed.

  1. Allows the technologists to log in, review the phantom scans for artifacts, and the quantitative results. Afterwards they would indicate that the results have been reviewed or what actions were taken to address any issues. We would want them to be able to ww/wl, pan zoom etc.

  1.  Configurable email alerts.

  1. Plots trends of the Daily QC analysis and perhaps predicts if maintenance will be needed… CT number drift, tranmit gain increases, etc.

Samuel Brady has developed Matlab code that processes all of our phantom scans on a chron job. It sends out automated emails when there are issues with Daily QC. This works very well for us, but we want to offload the upkeep of this program onto a commercial product.

Thanks for your suggestions,

-Joe Meier
