I recently tested a gamma camera which reported an energy resolution of up to 16% on one head during an extrinsic flood. The uniformity was normal and withing limits. The energy resolution was back within the manufacturer's limit (12%) after rebooting. Technologists have seen the same thing and reported it. Service investigated and made excuses why they think it doesn't need to be fixed... I figure they just can't figure out what the issue is because it's intermittent, but if it occurs during patient imaging it could decrease the number of counts collected, possibly increasing noise.
Has anyone seen this before? I would hope that being intermittent and affecting one head only would help track down the issue.
Has anyone quantified the impact of poor energy resolution on clinical images?
