CMS is proposing a change to the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting program to change reporting the ExRad eCQM from mandatory in 2027 to voluntary, at least through 2031. The relevant passage is below. See details at https: //public-inspection. federalregister. gov/2025-13360. pdf.
CMS is proposing a change to the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting program to change reporting the ExRad eCQM from mandatory in 2027 to voluntary, at least through 2031. The relevant passage is below. See details at https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2025-13360.pdf__;!!KGKeukY!2ti9V3_tYrBabbFLt7nMuTj04NEAlz7LvORlFj2YYrLRHJ_kI4KqfWh8zrkC9FfmlSjeglk5kqj7T6SRzIK9MhuxLksft_z84Knk6Xw$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2025-13360.pdf__;!!KGKeukY!1rPUvKBQsVY-ji3YLb8-hBs--T1D3zH2besNv2dGOtmIy5E105yM-f3esSA2UgOaMV1UB8lTPgICqZhfvFwfP_NJvAhA4Xec0-gb7w$>.

Reporting ExRad is also voluntary for the other two programs: Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting and MIPPS.

Thus, if the proposal is approved, ExRad will not be a required quality measure for any facilities. It still might positively impact reimbursement for facilies who need to select radiology specific measures (i.e. Inpatient OQR and MIPPS.)

I still have not figured out whether reimbursement would ever be affected by the actual score submitted.
