[Intl_DxMedPhys] The New CMS Measure: Perspectives from an AAPM-Commissioned Panel

I'd like to share a link to a paper recently published in AJR titled "The
New CMS Measure of Excessive Radiation Dose or Inadequate Image Quality in
CT: Issues and Ambiguities—Perspectives from an AAPM-Commissioned Panel."
It represents the extensive work of a 10-member panel complete with
reference compilation, analysis, and synthesis of perspectives on the new
CMS measure by clinical, academic, and industry professionals. The paper
enumerates, describes, and responds to a list of 20 identified issues and
ambiguities in an attempt to help providers and implementers of the
measure. Specifically, the panel highlights some of the same concerns
raised in a recent thread on this list related to image quality, patient
size estimation, global noise computation, and the lack of key data (e.g.
expected diameter d_k) en route to measure computation. While some
ambiguities remain, I believe this paper serves as a valuable resource
which articulates some of the concerns in the medical imaging community
while providing a consolidated reference list and guidance related to the
new CMS measure.
