Please consider signing. It's important for Hebraica/Judaica catalogers to be able to have a direct voice in the subject heading process.

Subject: Open letter to the Library of Congress about the Editorial Meeting changes

In response to the recently-announced changes<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.loc.gov/aba/cataloging/subject/meetings-change.pdf__;!!Dq0X2DkFhyF93HkjWTBQKhk!TR6i12IKy0reLEGZAHAZcL3h-6rE4KNWY-hy-iphMx7X3Uw__dqNl1SrphuaI34n-gdi2r_2sVT4wX4zj376MlnQXiOKD5cJX1Cr2Q$> to the Editorial Meetings by the Library of Congress (eliminating the open access to monthly subject proposal meetings for non-LC librarians that has been in place since 2021), over two-thirds of the SACO Funnel<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/saco/funnelsaco.html__;!!Dq0X2DkFhyF93HkjWTBQKhk!TR6i12IKy0reLEGZAHAZcL3h-6rE4KNWY-hy-iphMx7X3Uw__dqNl1SrphuaI34n-gdi2r_2sVT4wX4zj376MlnQXiOKD5clJgA32w$> coordinators have created an open letter, expressing our concerns about the changes, and the detrimental effects they'll have on the cataloging/SACO communities. We're requesting that the Library of Congress pause its decision (which is to take effect after this month's meeting), and engage in wider discussions with the cataloging community before making any changes.

The letter, although drafted by SACO Funnel coordinators, is open to any library worker who shares these concerns to sign (and there are over one hundred signatories since the letter opened for signatures this morning). Here's the link for the open letter<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/cataloginglab.org/editorial-meetings-decision/__;!!Dq0X2DkFhyF93HkjWTBQKhk!TR6i12IKy0reLEGZAHAZcL3h-6rE4KNWY-hy-iphMx7X3Uw__dqNl1SrphuaI34n-gdi2r_2sVT4wX4zj376MlnQXiOKD5ezHev1Mw$>, via the Cataloging Lab. Please consider signing, and supporting your colleagues.

If you're interested in signing, please fill out the form<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSccLsCzaWeDhJCzx9sal6d78BK_-ZdV9A8qXKHYjZzbW_VnHA/viewform__;!!Dq0X2DkFhyF93HkjWTBQKhk!TR6i12IKy0reLEGZAHAZcL3h-6rE4KNWY-hy-iphMx7X3Uw__dqNl1SrphuaI34n-gdi2r_2sVT4wX4zj376MlnQXiOKD5dN5tduKg$> linked at the bottom of the letter; or email your information to medicalsubjectheadings at gmail.com<mailto:medicalsubjectheadings at gmail.com>, Deborah.Tomaras at marist.edu<mailto:Deborah.Tomaras at marist.edu>, or abailund at sdsu.edu<mailto:abailund at sdsu.edu> by June 30, 2024, and we'll be sure to add your signature to the document.

Thanks in advance! We're hoping that the Library of Congress will see that concern is shared broadly among librarians, pause their plans to change the meeting format, and work constructively with the library community to find a more open and mutually beneficial way forward.

Best,
