[Heb-NACO] Fw: Palestine question in LCSH

Heb-NACOers,

I just got this info from my UCLA colleague.  Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it.  It is so reminiscent in my mind of the former LCSH term "Jewish question" which was long ago deleted.  I know it is still used in NLI records.

Were any of our LC colleagues involved in discussions about these new headings?

I am delighted to share with you that the SACO proposals to LC Subjects Subject Headings: Palestine question (1948-) and Palestine question (to 1948) have been approved. These two LCSHs have been much needed to represent the abundance of the materials we catalog in our libraries. Topics on National rights in Palestine and “al-Qadiyah al-Filastiniyah” were subsumed under the headings “Jewish-Arab relations” and “Arab-Israeli conflict,” both of which are too broad and do not include “Palestine” or "Palestinian" in the terms.
