[Heb-NACO] mem-nun-aleph-yud

I think that מנאי, pronounced minai is an Arameism, equivalent to ממני.

The alef is a mater lectionis, not a phonic stop, so it is not transcribed (like in Shamai, שמאי).

Thank you, Heidi. I did sign up by contacting Yosi but have not been receiving many e-mails from that listserv so I am wondering how active it is. I am also not certain how one posts questions on that listserv, but I can look into it. Thanks again.

Hi Judith, I believe that it is romanized as "minai" and does indicate authorship meaning something like "מאת".

I would like to suggest that you join the Heb-NACO listserv. This is a listserv that serves the community of Hebraica catalogers and serves as a forum for questions and answers relating to Hebraica cataloging. It is a very good place for you to get answers to questions like this from a wide variety of people. Historically it was developed to support the NACO Hebraica Funnel but not includes some participants that are not part of it. The list is closed but you can join if you contact Yosi Galron (list manager)
e-mail: jgalron at gmail.com<mailto:jgalron at gmail.com>
and tell him that I have suggested that you join.

Best, Heidi

Hi Heidi,
On the title page of a book I am cataloging is the word "mem-nun-aleph-yud" associated wit the name of the person who will go in the statement of responsibility. Am I correct in deducing that he is the mehaber? What is "menai"? Is it the same as "mini" (from)? Does it indicate authorship or main entry?
Thanks,
Judi
