[Geog-dept] friday update

I hope everyone is enjoying Spring Break. I am pleased to update everyone with this week's news from the Geography Department.

The AAG President will be conducting a panel at our Annual Conference in San Francisco. As some may have noticed, three of the panelists are OSU Alumnae and are now senior colleagues in the discipline.


Among the participants, Jenny Zorn (MA 1982, PhD 1990) is Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, California State University at Bakersfield. Her advisors were Randy Smith (for the MA) and Emilio Casetti (for the PhD).

Elizabeth A. Wentz (BSc Math. 1987, MA 1989) and PhD from Penn State in 1997 is Professor and Dean of Social Sciences, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Arizona State University. Libby’s advisor for the MA was Duane Marble.


Kavita Pandit (MA 1981, PhD 1987) is the incoming Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at Georgia State University, having recently served in a senior role at the University of Georgia. Kavita’s advisor was Emilio Casetti.



We are proud of our successful graduates and look forward to hearing their comments at the meetings.



Thanks again to Caitlin Naber for continuing to keep the incoming graduate recruiting process in motion and indeed for posting news to the grads each week about new jobs in the discipline.



Good wishes to our undergraduate co-advisor Jill Klimpel who is currently on a major trip to India. She promises to bring back photos.



As previously announced to the faculty Bryan Mark, Ningchuan Xiao, and Kenneth Madsen have all had positive news on their promotion cases. Congratulations!
