Good afternoon,
Student Life Disability Services has a grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation to nominate Ohio State students with spinal cord injuries for up to full academic funding through their Neilsen Scholarship Program<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/chnfoundation.org/programs/neilsen-scholarship-program/__;!!KGKeukY!xbAHGb4EeZQwNNlIbN7zpSAzaEVnkcWHWEhsz6mPHjslaqxodgJHcffVD7gunBMx-vHsdzrQzEJPF3Tug3yMqL-XEcw$>. These funds can cover tuition, fees, housing, books, meals, transportation, personal care assistants, and more!
I could use your help in finding qualified candidates to apply for these funds.
The deadline for students to apply on our SLDS website<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/slds.osu.edu/registered-students/resources-scholarships*scholarships__;Iw!!AU3bcTlGKuA!EWYqvIkYEkgzmqrbO6gWV3gErQs0yvxoYL2NcSde0qMWllA5PwqOg0sSxwGDDV85RuNFTU-zoJsTxveR9C0ERRlGg2Q$> for funding for the next academic year is March 25, 2025. Candidates can be incoming first-year students, current Ohio State students, transfer students, who are at the undergraduate or master’s level on any Ohio State campus. Applicants need to have completed the FAFSA and need to submit a statement and a reference letter with their application.
The Neilsen Foundation lists these requirements to be eligible:
Only individuals with neurological and functional impairment due to traumatic SCI, degenerative disease primary to the spinal cord (i.e., transverse myelitis) or damage to the spinal cord due to tumors and surgery are eligible for support through this program. Individuals with spinal dysfunction, paralysis or pain syndromes caused by other traumatic or primary orthopedic, genetic, or developmental disorders are not eligible (e.g., multiple sclerosis, ALS, Chiari malformation or peripheral nerve injury).
Do you know anyone who might be interested? I’m happy to schedule a time to chat with any prospective students if they’d like to learn more.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and feel free to share this e-mail with others who may be interested or who work with individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Take care,
Cheryl Lyons
