Subject: Invite: Queer and Trans (of Color) Research Network's first meeting (Friday 3/1/24)
Dear all,
I hope you and all are taking good care. With co-facilitators Joe Ponce, Mollie Blackburn, and Rasel Ahmed, I am happy to announce that the new Queer and Trans (of Color) Research Network (QTOCRN)—hosted by the new FREE Center<https://wgss.osu.edu/community/free-center> for community-engaged feminist research and teaching—will be meeting for the first time next Friday, March 1, 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in 311 Denney Hall (access guide here<https://bpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/u.osu.edu/dist/b/88524/files/2020/03/Access-Guide-for-The-Ohio-State-University.pdf>).
Please join us if you are interested in meeting faculty, graduate students, and staff at the university connecting their work with queer and trans studies and issues. Barring any technological breakdowns, people are welcome to attend by Zoom as well: https://osu.zoom.us/j/95607145063?pwd=RnY2RTJmSmx4eUtvalpRQ1VRdkhidz09 (password if needed 757096).
Our first gathering will focus on:
* appreciating the range of work that participants are pursuing around queer and trans studies and issues
* identifying what participants are most excited and/or concerned about in terms of queer and trans studies and issues
* articulating ideas regarding the cluster’s future programming and directions
* deciding on at least one concrete idea that we will implement in the second meeting
* leaving time at the end for people to mingle and get to know each other.
If you are interested in attending in-person or by Zoom, could you try to RSVP by Wednesday, February 28 at chen.982 at osu.edu<mailto:chen.982 at osu.edu> so we can get a count for refreshments? Also, please let us know if you have any accessibility<https://bpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/u.osu.edu/dist/b/88524/files/2020/03/Access-Guide-for-The-Ohio-State-University.pdf> and/or dietary needs.
Once you RSVP, we will ask you to submit a brief bio in advance of the meeting to save time using our QTOCRN Carmen site.
If you are interested in the group but cannot make the first meeting, let us know by email and we can keep you updated about meetings and also add you to our Carmen site.
We look forward to launching this cluster with you all! If there is anyone else you know who might be interested, feel free to forward this email to them.
Thanks and all best, Jian (on behalf of initial network co-facilitators Rasel, Mollie, and Joe)

*I would like to acknowledge that the land The Ohio State University occupies is the ancestral and contemporary territory of the Shawnee, Potawatomi, Delaware, Miami, Peoria, Seneca, Wyandotte, Ojibwe, and Cherokee peoples. Specifically, the university resides on land ceded in the 1795 Treaty of Greeneville and the forced removal of tribes through the Indian Removal Act of 1830. We want to honor the resiliency of these tribal nations and recognize the historical contexts that have and continue to affect the Indigenous peoples of this land.*
