Subject: [Engrad] Invitation to join GAMHAA leadership: 2024-2025 - Apply by Monday 4/15!

Hello everyone,

On behalf of the Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy (GAMHAA), we would like to extend an invitation to any interested graduate students to join our leadership team for the academic year 2024-2025. Below, we outline (1) what GAMHAA is and what we do, (2) what positions are available, (3) why you might consider getting involved, and (4) how to apply! This is not a department specific group. It is open to ALL graduate students in ALL departments, so please share widely with anyone that might be interested.

(1) What is GAMHAA?

The Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy (GAMHAA), founded in 2017, advocates for the needs of OSU graduate students' mental health and wellness. The association provides the opportunity for students to join together to make the university a healthier, more egalitarian place by spreading awareness, sharing resources, enacting anti-stigma initiatives, pairing with community organizations, and advocating for positive grassroots change in the way graduate study is conducted at OSU.

For 2024-2025, GAMHAA will be advised by Dr. Margaret Price, Director of the Disability Studies Program.

(2) Positions Overview

One member of the current leadership team, Charlie Andorka, will be serving a second term. Current leaders Shalini Abayasekara and Jess Vazquez Hernandez will also be there over the summer to help with the transition. We envision additional leadership roles to include: President, Vice President (optional), Treasurer, Social Media Communications Manager, and Newsletter Editor. However, the roles are flexible and can be adapted to align with your interest/skills. If there is a different role you’d want to propose, fill out the form and let us know what that is!

All leadership positions hold the following responsibilities:

  * Keep communication channels open between leadership and general members.
  * Attend leadership meetings to offer input on and vote on ideas, events, and actions.
  * Cooperate with other leadership members to organize, coordinate, and guide organization initiatives.

In addition to these responsibilities, each position has the following unique roles and responsibilities:

President

  * Completing training requirements by OSU
  * Overseeing the overall running of the organization
  * Maintaining communication with and among the GAMHAA officers, as well as with the Faculty Advisor
  * Developing/reviewing the organization’s mission statement and constitution
  *   Registering new members

Vice-President

  * Supports the President on all the primary tasks as needed, including:

     * Overseeing the overall running of the organization
     * Maintaining communication with and among the GAMHAA officers, as well as with the Faculty Advisor

     * Developing/reviewing the organization’s mission statement and constitution

     *   Registering new members

  *   Managing the listserv

Treasurer

  * Completing training requirements by OSU
  *   Managing group finances

  * Writing up and submitting funding requests

  * Submitting audits for completed events

Social Media Coordinator

  *   Updating social media accounts
  *   Creating post for events/resources

Newsletter Editor

  * Handling submissions and development of the newsletter, GAMHAA Ray

(3) Why Be on Leadership

Here are three major benefits of being in leadership:

  1. Supporting your career goals. This is a great opportunity to tailor your CV or fill any gaps as you prepare for the (near or future) job market.
  2. Getting involved in Disability Studies (DS). If you are interested in DS, this is a great way to get plugged in. No background in DS is required.

  1. Pursuing your interests and shaping GAMHAA. GAMHAA has taken many shapes over the years based on each leadership team’s interests. This has included bringing speakers to OSU, creating a Quiet Room in Denney Hall, being guest speakers at events, and hosting informal community events for students. Past officers have made great contributions to GAMHAA, and being part of leadership, you can have a direct impact on what GAMHAA does at OSU.

(4) How to Apply

If you are interested, please fill out this Microsoft Survey<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/forms.office.com/r/x6x0iqdiQJ__;!!KGKeukY!wIw05PFKTQBwYvNLUJcQdlPB8eu60stJaDdG7ZRJ9BBKL8XHgJVy6tOiiq5EtoPpcY07sULSLT62J33vUk1HUC4$>. Again, these positions are open to ALL graduate students from ALL disciplines.

The survey will require you to sign in to your OSU account and will ask for:

  1. Your name + (optionally) your pronouns.
  2.  Your OSU email.
  3. Which position(s) you are interested in.
  4. A brief paragraph explaining your interest & goals with the position(s) to help us get to know you a little better.

Please fill out the form by Monday, April 15th at 11:59 pm ET.

Thanks and best,
