Humans evolved for hundreds of thousands of years in nature – we are part of nature and we have a hard-wired tendency to seek natural environments. This is the Biophilia Hypothesis. However, the course of human civilization has taken us away from nature with a tendency toward eliminating environmental discomfort and design with more unchanging permanence in the spaces we inhabit. What are the essential elements for comfort? Could connection to the natural world be just as important as a dry indoor environment with temperature control? We invite you to join the Living Future Columbus Collaborative, a local chapter of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), for a walking tour and discussion as we re-examine the important components of design for human health and productivity through the lens of different types of biophilic design at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center and along the Scioto Mile.
AGENDA:
10-11am -- Walking/rolling tour along Scioto Mile
11-11:30am -- Presentation on biophilic design and beauty
11:30-12pm -- Sharing photos (live stream from Instagram); group discussion
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Understand the value of biophilic design in the built environment.
2. Explore biophilic design integration through first-hand experience.
3. Discuss how biophilic features can be implemented by designers.
4. Understand the most important biophilic-oriented health and comfort benefits for human-occupied spaces in both indoor and outdoor built environments.
Approved for 1 General LFA<https://living-future.org/lfa/> CE credit. Self-report for GBCI CE hours. Continuing education credits pending for 1.5 AIA LUs.
