Dear students and colleagues,
Join us in welcoming Jillian Weise, creative writer, scholar, and
activist. The events will be of particular interest to those in creative
writing, narrative medicine, digital media, and disability studies.
*Friday, Sept. 16, 5:30-6:30 pm. Reading by Jillian Weise. Denney 311.* Free
and open to the public. Contact Jessie Male (male.23) with questions or
accessibility requests.
*Friday, Sept. 16, 12:45-1:45 pm. Master class with Jillian Weise on
digital production, disability activism, and public writing.** Denney
311*. Free
and open to all members of the OSU community; however, please RSVP with
Margaret Price (price.1225) as space is limited.
*Saturday, Sept. 17, 2:00-4:00 pm. Graduate workshop with Jillian
Weise. Denney 311. *This workshop is fully enrolled; however, to be added
to the wait-list, contact Chad Iwertz (iwertz.1).
Jillian Weise's books include *The Amputee's Guide to Sex, The Colony,
*and *The
Book of Goodbyes, *which won the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of
American Poets. Her poems "Biohack Manifesto" and "Future Biometrics" won
the 2015 Wood Prize from *Poetry* magazine. Her essays include "Going
Cyborg" and "Cloning Disabled Subjects." She is currently at work on a
YouTube series called "Tips for Writers." Weise's other honors include a
Fulbright Fellowship, a Lannan Residency, and the 2013 Isabella Gardner
Poetry Award from BOA Editions. She is an Associate Professor at Clemson
University and is currently living and working in Iowa as the Guest
Editor-in-Residence at The Iowa Review.
