COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Today, we hear a lot about Judaism and Islam being incompatible belief systems,  but the historical reality was rather different.  Come find out how Jewish communities really functioned under Muslim rule:  the legal prescriptions, the actual practices, the occupations (including government official) that Jews held in the centuries between the initial Muslim conquest of the Middle East in the 7th century and the beginnings of Europeanizing change around 1800.  You don’t need prior knowledge of Judaism or Islam!
