Dear all,
My review of Penguin Books' new comics anthology *Longform 2022* is out now
on Scroll.in
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://scroll.in/article/1027386/longform-2022-this-graphic-stories-anthology-uses-the-medium-to-break-conventional-narratives__;!!KGKeukY!yf0OBtsrqDfPBjgS9iQqz041YXI6ZT48-WAdEELRVNOHY6pEl7EL_v7-_Ey5HMh3UN0nLaNXlY-mj9T7Drhbq3yMApFLeUeV0P6mqw$ >
.
I write on the work of emerging artists (Arghya Manna, Sudhanya Dasgupta,
Anirban Ghosh, Ekta Bharati, etc.) while trying to figure out how American
and French greats like Noah Van Sciver and Tanitoc fit into an anthology of
Indian comics. I tried my best to resist the whole 'sum of their parts in
relation to the whole'-way of reading anthologies and in that sense this
review is also an experiment. Engaged with every piece in this 18-comic
volume with asides on the state of lettering in Indian comics and the scene
in general. Interestingly, the anthology (part of a series of which this is
the second volume) is named after uses of the phrase in Charles
Hatfield's *Alternative
Comics* (source
