[Comicsstudiessociety] Sandman and female readers

Dear all,

if I recall correctly, Gaiman's Sandman got famous for drawing lots of female readers. Unfortunately, I can't find sources confirming this. Am I right here anyway? If yes, can anybody help out with some sources?

And another question: Did the original Sandman issues contain letter pages?
