Calling All Comics Research/Academic/Special Collections Librarians and Archivists:
We are working with the Comics Studies Society<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/comicssociety.org/__;!!KGKeukY!hVKahsy6HTd2-KZlpFbjhxhH5vVVtj76ghC8z6ahTFiQ_MKKyM2bnDvbybCOeHjV$> to determine if there is interest in creating a caucus of research/academic/special collections librarians and archivists similar to the existing Graduate Student Caucus - of the Comics Studies Society (comicssociety.org)<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/gradcaucus.comicssociety.org/__;!!KGKeukY!hVKahsy6HTd2-KZlpFbjhxhH5vVVtj76ghC8z6ahTFiQ_MKKyM2bnDvbyaQL9A9m$>. While groups like the ALA Graphic Novel Round Table exist to serve a broader community, we see a potential niche in the network of librarians specifically supporting comics studies scholarship and teaching and the growing network of research (rather than leisure) focused collections, either circulating or special. Possible activities of the caucus could include:

  * Determine and assess the needs of research librarians in collecting and preserving comics and comics-related materials, making them accessible and discoverable, and promoting researcher engagement with them.
  * Create spaces that allow research librarians to network with one another.
  * Facilitate discussions about library acquisitions, cataloging, preservation, collections development, programming, and exhibitions with regard to comics and comic-related materials.
  * Build collaboration with and integrate research librarians into the community of international comics scholars, researchers and students.
  * Facilitate librarian participation in national and regional conferences in comics studies.
Please respond to Scott Walter (slwalter at sdsu.edu<mailto:slwalter at sdsu.edu>) and Jenny Robb (robb.41 at osu.edu<mailto:robb.41 at osu.edu>) to let us know if you might be interested in this type of group. At this point, we are not asking you to sign up for anything, just indicate if you are interested in joining the conversation. Please feel free to forward or repost this to help us spread the word!
