Op donderdag 22 april om 18 uur organiseert het Marc Sleen Museum een
eerste online masterclass. Gastspreker is de Amerikaan Derf Backderf (Ohio,
1959), van opleiding journalist en geen tekenaar waardoor zijn tekenstijl
wat naiëf oogt maar daarom niet minder sterk is.
Hij brak internationaal door met de strip My Friend Dahmer, het verhaal van
zijn vriendschap in zijn puberteit met Jeffrey Dahmer, de latere
seriemoordenaar. Zijn meest recente striproman Kent State beschrijft de
tragische gebeurtenissen van 4 mei 1970 wanneer de Nationale Garde op
onbewapende studenten schoot die op de universiteit van Kent State
protesteerden tegen de oorlog in Vietnam.

On Thursday 22 April at 6 pm the Marc Sleen Museum organises its first
online master class. Guest speaker is the American Derf Backderf (Ohio,
1959), journalist by training and not an artist, which makes his drawing
style look a bit naive, but is no less strong for that.
He made his international breakthrough with the comic My Friend Dahmer, the
story of his adolescent friendship with Jeffrey Dahmer, the later serial
killer. His most recent comic book, Kent State, describes the tragic events
of May 4, 1970, when the National Guard fired on unarmed students
protesting against the Vietnam War at Kent State University.
