Sent on behalf of Garrett Tatum, re: CEGE representation with the Council for Graduate Students:
Hi all,
My name is Garrett Tatum, and I am a second year PhD student in Structural Engineering. I wanted to let you know that I was elected as the department’s delegate to the Council of Graduate Students<https://cgs.osu.edu/> last fall and have been serving in that role since November. CGS is one of OSU’s student government associations and the only targeted specifically to graduate students. CGS offers student grants, programs, and regularly meets with university leadership to advocate for graduate students across the university.
I wanted to let you all know of my role and the ways that I plan to serve you. It is my goal to serve the department in the following ways:
1. Before each monthly meeting, provide an update on any resolutions that the CGS body will be voting on and allow students to comment.
2. Following each monthly meeting, provide an update with pertinent information for our graduate students.
3. Voice any student concerns, questions, or suggestions to the CGS body.
Monthly updates will typically come as a brief paragraph in Dina’s Weekly Graduate Student Updates, but for this month's updates, please see below!
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Thanks,
Garrett Tatum

CGS Updates - CGS met this past Friday, 2/5, and there were two main updates to share:
* CGS heard a presentation from the new Graduate Ombudsperson<https://ombudsman.osu.edu/> – Dr. Rebeka Campos-Astorkiza. She is passionate about this new role will be a great resource for graduate student resources, conflict resolution, and general advocacy in the coming years!
* CGS passed a resolution calling for the University to provide better access to and promote awareness of counseling resources and mental health services to graduate students. Counseling and Consultation Services has resources available for both on- and off-campus counseling services that work with Student Health Insurance. Please visit ccs.osu.edu for more information.
