COE will award four $500 Graduate Associate Performance Awards (GAPA), on behalf of the Graduate School, in recognition of the exceptional performance of graduate students who have been providing caregiving for children and others during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With extraordinary recent stressors, ranging from home schooling to having no childcare, the awards aim to recognize students who have still been able to perform, progress and for some, go the extra mile in taking on leadership responsibilities and/or serving as a graduate assistant in the areas of teaching or research. Statewide curfew reminder - Due to a continued decrease in case numbers, Columbus Public Health and Franklin County Public Health did not extend the Stay-at-Home Advisory that expired Feb. 6. While this trend is encouraging, we must all continue following safe and healthy requirements, including wearing masks properly, staying at least six feet apart from others, avoiding crowds and washing hands often. As a reminder, Governor DeWine’s statewide curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. remains in place. Effective Jan. 14, Lyft Ride Smart at Ohio State is expanding its hours of operation, offering eligible students four additional hours to utilize discounted rides. Service now runs 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. inside the university designated service area. These changes support recommendations from the Community Safety and Well-Being Task Force. The Student Life Student Wellness Center has scheduled eight interactive workshops throughout Spring semester for our graduate and professional students to gain knowledge related to supporting others’ holistic well-being, management of stress and substance use, and preparing participants to host difficult conversations and refer others to on-campus resources. Graduate and professional students can register to attend our Guiding Students to Wellness workshop to learn skills such as active listening, motivational interviewing, and hosting difficult conversations with our student community. Our Recovery Ally Training is designed to train attendees in becoming a Recovery Ally to support others who are in or seeking recovery from substance misuse. Both workshops discuss resources on campus as well as navigating these topics through COVID-19. As graduate and professional students, navigating your academic program while working to develop a personal and professional community can sometimes feel daunting and isolating. While Ohio State predominantly serves an undergraduate student population, there are many resources available just for you! Although it may sometimes feel lonely, know that you don’t have figure this out on your own. The Buckeye Peer Access Line (PAL) serves as a non-emergency talk line that provides an accessible space for students to engage in brief conversations in order to gain support and learn about campus resources.
