Hope everyone had a great winter break and is enjoying the last week before the start of Spring 2021! The two biggest items I want to highlight this week are:

  *   Statewide curfew extended - Governor DeWine has extended the statewide curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Jan. 23.   *   Post-break, return-to-campus protocols: The first two weeks of spring semester classes (Jan. 11-15 and 18-22) will be conducted via virtual delivery. Student move-in for spring semester is currently scheduled to begin Jan. 18. All members of the university community have been asked to self-sequester for 14 days before they return to campus. Sequestering means staying in your residence as much as possible. The goal is to limit exposure to any other person, including your family members or roommates. If you must be near others, you should wear a mask even indoors.
  *   For student researchers, including undergraduate, graduate and professional students, a negative COVID test will be required before returning to on-campus research activities through January 24th.      *   Course to consider: Public Affairs 8055 (syllabus attached)- Public Affairs and Public Choice is designed to introduce graduate students to a series of largely non-mathematical public economics and public choice models.  The course is built around a series of powerful small thought models and economic concepts that have important implications for public policy analysis.  Material is drawn from public sector economics, public choice theory, and public budgeting and public finance. This class is a survey of public choice models that can be applied in a variety of contexts.

  *   Semester classes begin: Monday, January 11, 2021 (virtual delivery: Monday, January 11 - Friday, January 22, 2021)
  *   Application to Graduate Due to Graduate School: Friday, January 29, 2021
  *   First SP21 instructional break: Feb 23-24
  *   Second SP21 instructional break: March 30-April 1 (April 2, Wednesday classes will meet instead of Friday classes)

As the Director of the City of Cleveland’s Department of Public Utilities, Robert L. Davis is responsible for management and oversight of more than 1,700 employees, a budget of over $600 million, and all operations within the Divisions of Cleveland Public Power, Cleveland Water, Cleveland Water Pollution Control and Utilities Fiscal Control, as well as the citywide Office of Radio Communications and Cleveland’s public access channel, TV20.   *   Spring Student Involvement Fair
Thursday, January 21, 2021 4-7 p.m.
The Spring Student Involvement Fair takes place each year January, giving new and returning students an opportunity to explore more options for their involvement.  Smaller and more intimate than the Student Involvement Fair held during Welcome Week, the Spring Student Involvement Fair gives students a perfect chance to meet people and learn about the great things Ohio State's student organizations are doing. Although the live Fair event takes place from 4-7 p.m., display booths and features will be available to navigate from Jan 21-31. Please contact SIFair at osu.edu with any questions or concerns.

The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The Fellowship, named after one of Sea Grant's founders and former NOAA Administrator John A. Knauss, matches highly qualified graduate students with "hosts" in the legislative and executive branch of government located in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one year paid fellowship.
