Dear CBE Grad Students,

Here is the department's policy on the Spring 2020 Pass/Non Pass option.

Spring 2020 Pass/Non Pass Option for CBE Graduate Students
Graduate students can elect to take a course as PA/NP, including technical electives and core courses. Consistent with the Graduate School, a pass will be a grade of C- or better. A pass will be deemed sufficient for students to have the course count toward the final degree. For core courses, an informal record of the actual grade achieved will be recorded. This grade will be used to determine whether students have met the standards expected from a graduate student. Specifically, grades of C (C-, C, C+) will be evaluated on a case by case basis in consultation with the research adviser to determine if additional remediation is necessary. Students can ask the course instructor for an estimate of the final grade.

Qualifier Exam 1
The need to complete QE1 will be determined using the GPA for the students in the core courses. If students elect to take a core course as a PA/NP option, the GPA will be calculated based on courses completed for a grade.
(1) If GPA>3.45 AND the advisor agrees, students may opt out of taking QE1.
(2) If 3.45>GPA>3.20, students will be required to complete QE1.
(3) If 3.20>GPA>3.00, students may petition the graduate studies committee to be able to complete the QE1 exam.
(4) If 3.00>GPA, students will not be allowed to continue in the program.

To choose this option please fill out this survey for each course you are choosing the PA/NP option: https://osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4NPcJKw9PKo0VVP

You'll be asked for the course department & course number, and your student ID number. I will collect the responses and forward them to the Graduate School for processing. A copy of the request will be displayed to you at the completion of the form and you will have the option to save it as a PDF. There is only one course per form submission; to request the PA/NP option for additional courses, please submit this form again for each course. A student must opt in to be evaluated under the PA/NP grading option. Please complete the form by 12:00 pm on Friday, April 17th.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks,
Angela
