Sample calc and Discussion/Conclusion section for exp 14

I always get a lot of e-mails asking about the sample calculations
for exp 14. There is a discrepancy between the lab manual (and my
web page) and the rubric (on Carmen). The rubric asks for Ps, slope
and delta(Hv) while the manual asks for 1/T, Ps, slope and delta(Hv).
The rubric states to show a sample calculation for ALL types of calc
and lists which ones are graded for correctness.

In the report, show the calculations for all three things listed in the
rubric
and 1/T since you need it in order to get the other things. The majority
of the calculation points are already being given when you do the on-line
data entry. We still want to see these four calculations for one line
of one
compound. You should have done this anyway if you used Excel and
programmed the equations in Excel or even did them by hand. You had
to make sure you had the correct results. Do NOT simply write the Excel
equations you programmed (such as 1/A1).

For delta(Hv) you should take two points from one of your lines and show
a slope calculation (don't use your actual data points). Don't worry if you
don't have grid lines, we just want to see a rough calculation. For the
actual
calculation of the delta(Hv) values use the slopes generated by Excel.

Note the "Data" section of the rubric where it has "Names NOT recorded".
If you do NOT record the names of the other students from whom you obtained
data for the known cmpds you will not get these points. You will not be
graded
on s.f. for the data from the other partners. However, you will be
graded on
the correct s.f. for the calculated values from this data. Treat the
partners data
as if it has the correct number of s.f. so as not to mess up s.f. from
your data
(assuming you recorded the correct number of s.f.).
