The 2nd midterm is almost done. We still have make-ups this
week. Remember, don't be talking with others about the exam
because of the make-up exams. We can't discuss them in
recitation this week.
I hope you all did well. I can't say much about the exam at this
point. Sometime next week is when I believe they will release the
exam results and questions so you can see which ones you missed.
Hang in there.
I know a lot of you have not been attending lecture. I realize for
some of you watching the pre-recorded lectures will suffice. For
many, this is not the best thing to do. I have done things in lecture
which may not be in the pre-recorded video, particularly
demonstrations, which can help. Plus, fellow students ask
questions during lecture which aren't part of the pre-recorded
lectures. Studies show attending lecture can raise grades by at
least a partial letter grade.
The pre-recorded lectures are really meant for those who have to
miss lecture because they're too ill to attend. They can also be
used when you're struggling to understand something and you
remember it was covered in lecture. You can look back through
the video for help.
We've finished titrations. The are pretty much a combination and
a review of material from Ch 16 and 17.1-17.2. We are moving on
to the 2nd half of Ch 17. Sections 17.4-17.6 are challenging. I think
it would be helpful to come to lecture for these sections.
Try to hang in while we finish Ch 17. Chapters 19 and 20 will be
easier.
If you're struggling and you didn't come to one of my "How to
Learn" sessions or watch the Zoom recording at the start of the
semester, I suggest you watch it before you get back from spring
break. Even if you've been doing okay, it can help with time
management. If you want to meet sometime this week, or even
during spring break, I can do so via Zoom, even if you're on a beach
somewhere.
