pre-quiz

For the pre-quiz the last question asked you to upload your work. The TAs
have to go through the quizzes and "grade" that part. They are simply going
to check to see that you did it. I had several people who didn't do it and some
who sent their work to me via e-mail (which we don't accept). You should
be able to see your score once your TA completes this.

It really didn't matter since the pre-quiz doesn't count toward your final course
grade. I'm having the TAs check your uploads and leave comments if you
didn't do it or something looked wrong. However, they're just going to give
everyone a score of zero. That's mainly so I can easily see how everyone
did on the questions themselves. There were reasons I asked for the work.

I wanted to give you practice doing this. You will be uploading files for lab.
Most of you did this in your previous chem course but for some people it's
their first time in one of our chem courses. Having practice doing this didn't
hurt.

For future quizzes, we're not going to ask you to upload you're work. That
may change if I see evidence of academic misconduct. Then I will ask
for you to do this. If that happens I wanted you to have practice and figure
things out when it didn't count for points.

I do go through and look at a sampling of the work to gauge how people
are approaching the material presented. It's possible to sometimes get
the right answer but not have the right line of reasoning or just get lucky
with guessing.

Finally, there is a sample pre-quiz and the answer key for it at the "Quizzes"
link on my personal 1220 class webpage. If you didn't take the quiz I suggest
you print off the blank quiz and take it in the allotted time. Then check the
answer key. For those of you who did take it, you should be able to see your
results and the question in Carmen. You certainly want to look at the sample
quiz and the answer key to fix things you may have had trouble with on the
quiz itself.
