late quizzes, corrupted files, missed quizzes, watching lectures, etc.

I've received a few e-mails today about not tuning in quiz 2 for being ill, forgetting to do so, having it not upload
properly, etc. I also had someone thinking their quiz didn't upload because their score was only 5/20.
We won't accept late quizzes. You have 30 hours to get them done and submitted. That's plenty of time to do
the quiz, check it, make corrections and get it in. You shouldn't wait until the last minute to submit it. If you
do, you might run into problems of some sort that might prevent you from submitting. This past weekend you
got a few extra hours to submit (I'm not counting the wee hours of the morning). That was because I forgot to
publish the module with the link for the quiz. That was only about a 1.5 hour delay.
You need to check to make sure your file was uploaded properly and the file isn't corrupted and can be viewed.
Once you submit you can download it to make sure. This was in an e-mail I sent on Sept 6.
We don't accept quizzes via e-mail, only via Carmen.
If your score was low today it means nothing. The TAs haven't graded anything yet. I just sent them the answer
key. I sent an e-mail about how the quizzes are graded and when to look at your scores. This was sent on Sept. 7.
Please find it and read it.
We don't have make-up quizzes. We drop the 3 lowest activity scores. If you miss a quiz for any reason (sick, other
emergency, etc.) the activity associated with this quiz will likely be one of your lower scores. Remember, the
activity score for a week consists of attendance (5 pts) and a quiz (15 pts). The quiz makes up the majority of your
activity score for a week. Normally, I give quizzes in recitation and drop only 1 quiz score. I also don't usually have
quizzes the weeks of midterms. We have 14 activities this semester which meant having quizzes the weeks of
midterms. That was so we could drop the 3 lowest scores to account for the possibility that people could miss
multiple activities due to COVID. Since these quizzes are "take-home" quizzes you should always attempt them
unless you absolutely can't do it.
Even if ill, unless really ill, you can still attend the Zoom recitations. I've spoken to the TAs and they've told me
they've generally been at only about 75% attendance.
One of the problems with remote learning is making yourself stay on task because you don't necessarily have that
push to have to do something. I don't take attendance for the Zoom lectures. I've never taken attendance. I
want to treat you as adults which means you have to realize you need to take responsibility for your education
and learning. Part of this is going to class, just like you would have to do if you had a job. This is a job, maybe
the hardest one you'll have during your lifetime (at least one which seems to never end, hour after hour, day
after day, with little time off). I know I have the pre-recorded lectures you can watch whenever you want.
I can see how many times these have been accessed and it looks like not everyone has been viewing these.
The same for the Zoom lectures. Very few of you have been looking at these and there's probably some overlap
with those watching the pre-recorded lectures.
The first midterm is coming up a week from tomorrow.
