recitations and quizzes schedule

I'm getting questions about recitation and quiz schedules, particularly from
Monday recitation students. The schedule for these things is on page 8 of
the syllabus. So is an explanation of how things work in terms of
attendance
and points. The table shows whether there's a quiz or just a review or no
recitation at all.
For the periods marked "Review" you are required to be there and you get
5 points for those periods (being there and participating, not texting,
watching
Youtube, etc.). Note the first review is the week of midterm 1. That's
a time
to ask questions for a full 55 minutes.
The "X" in the table means there's no recitation. However, the TAs will
hold office hours in your recitation room so you can go there for help and
won't have to compete with other students in the LRC.
For Monday recitations things are really odd because of the fact we start
the semester on a Tue and have two Monday holidays. You didn't have
the prequiz. That's okay because it didn't count toward your course grade.
Hopefully you took one of them after I posted them at my "Quizzes" link.
This is made up at the end of the semester. You'll have "Activity 1" during
your last recitation period. You will have a practice quiz covering new
material.
It will NOT count toward your final grade but you have to attend that period
(you really want to).
You won't have the quiz 2 that everyone else will have next week. Those
quizzes will be on my web page after they're done next week. You should
take one and time yourself.
You will have "Quiz 2" on Nov. 25th. It will be covering material we cover
the week before. That is the week of Thanksgiving break. We do have
recitation that Monday and lecture on Tuesday. The break doesn't start
until
Wed.
If you miss a quiz for any reason that is a zero. However, we drop the
lowest
score. That means that zero would be dropped. The whole purpose of having
the dropped quiz is to cover a situation where someone misses a quiz. That
means you shouldn't just skip a quiz. If you do and then miss another
you will
now have a zero for the 2nd missed quiz which will count toward your grade.
I hope this helps.
