We finished section 17.3 (titrations) on Fri. That was kind
of the "end" on acid-base chemistry (but you will use some of this
knowledge in the rest of the chapter and later in future chapters).
Understanding acids, bases, buffers and acid-base titrations is important,
not just for our class but organic chemistry and biology related classes.
This is why I spent essentially the last 3 lectures on sections 17.1
(common
ion equilibria), 17.2 (buffers) & 17.3 (titrations).
Titrations pretty much combine much of what we covered in chapter 16
and sections 17.1-17.2 in one problem. Use the next couple of days to
catch up.
We also started section 17.4 on Fri. (start of solubility equilibria of
slightly
to insoluble salts). I plan to finish ch 17 Monday. We may start ch 19.
If you look at my ch 19 notes the first few pages are a review of some
things from ch 5. You really need to review ch 5. We'll be doing some
things in ch 19 which are similar to some things you did in ch 5. Look at
the first 17 pages of the notes which review ch 5 material. If you have
trouble
understanding what's there you may have to review the ch 5 material in the
book. I'm not sure if I will cover these pages in lecture or not but if
I to I'll be
going through this review material pretty quickly.
