The keys and blank quizzes are up for quiz 4. If you struggled with the
quiz, particularly the ICE table problems you may want to print one or
both and try it again. Did you do the homework from the book, the
4 additional problems and the on-line homework?
I had several people either e-mail me or come to see me about the problem
with a large K on the on-line homework. The first question I asked them
was if they had done the homework from the book. For most the answer
was "no". I also asked if they had done the 4 extra problems I told
everyone
to do. Again, the answer was "no". Turns out the 4th question was the same
as the one in the on-line homework. It is not an easy question. I kind of
expected many, if not most, of you would probably have to peak at my
solution to get an idea of what to do. But then you should have tried to
finish it. If you couldn't and had to look at the whole solution you should
have tried it again on your own the next day or so.
I also want to point out a few things about the quiz itself.
Question 2 on the Tuesday quiz and Question 1(a) were essentially
out of the book (15.26 from the 12th-14th eds. and 15.22 from the
10th-11th eds.). There was a question on each about writing the K
expression for a heterogeneous reaction, similar to several in the book.
There as a question on each relating Kp and Kc (similar to several in
the first section of homework).
ICE table problem #2 (Thursday) and #3 (Tuesday) were based on and
similar to 15.79 (14th ed.), 15.77 (12th-13th ed.), 15.65 (11th ed.) and
15.64 (10th ed.). The difference was quiz one had both reactant and
one of the products, similar to #3 on in the extra problems.
ICE table problem #4 on both quizzes was similar to problems in the
book from the section of homework corresponding to section 15.4
in the book. Both dealt with a solid as a reactant or product.
