I've been getting a number of e-mails asking about the sample calculations
for exp 14 and the post-lab entry.
The rubric and the manual asks for 1/T, Ps. slope and delta(Hv).
However, you have to have sample calculations leading up to these
things or you won't be given full credit for the particular calculation.
For the sample calc. for the slope use points from the line for your
compound, marking the two points used. You don't need grid lines
so estimate the x and y values used. Do NOT use actual data points.
When you do the calculation for delta(Hv) use the slope from the
equation generated by Excel and printed on your graph.
Always use your own data and indicate which trial, and compound
when appropriate, it's from.
For the post-lab data entry, use the data for your compound, even
though it states "use data for your unknown". For the b.p. use the
one you measured in the lab. For the report include the normal
b.p. as well.
There is no report form in the template. Use Excel to create a report
forms (the tables given on the report form in the manual). Make sure
it looks pretty much like the report form, which two entries for the two
boiling points. You can make a separate worksheet for each compound
in Excel and insert each one as a separate page in the report or combine
them on pages (probably won't be able to get more than two on one
page and have it be readable).
I know some of this has already been conveyed in previous e-mails from
me or Dr. Moga. We are trying to make sure things are done correctly
since some of you didn't take 1210 here, it may be the first time you've
used the Word template and there were changes to the procedure.
