I know some of you are having trouble getting the manual and thus don't
have the exp 14 write-up. I scanned it before I left school and I've added
it to my class web page (NOT Carmen). Go to the "Laboratory" link,
*Laboratory*
<http://chemistry.osu.edu/%7Erzellmer/chem1220/lab/lab_1220.htm>
There you can find information about exp 14. I have a new link for
the exp 14 manual pages. I'm doing this for exp 14 only. I will have
the office check with the book stores about the manuals.
I've also received several e-mails about not understanding what to do for
the on-line data entry program. You need to thoroughly read the discussion
and data analysis section and write the procedure first. You will be given
data as if you collected it for your unknown. You will then use eqn. (6) to
calculate the pressure of the sample, Ps, using the temperature, volume and
barometric pressure data given. For the boiling pt you don't use eqn
6. The
Ps for the b.p. is simply the barometric pressure.
Look at the links I have for exp 14 help. Again, you can find these at the
"Laboratory" link and/or the "Helpful Tidbits" link on the class web page.
The link,
*Exp 14 - Help for Exp 14*
<http://chemistry.osu.edu/%7Erzellmer/chem1220/faq/exp14.txt>
can be found at either of the above links. It will help you with some
questions you
may have about the pre-lab and about lab and the post-lab.
The other links will help with the report and using Excel for doing
calculations and
the graphs.
