There seems to be a problem with Parts A and B in Ch 3a (3.1-3.2) Homework Review
question #2. It’s about balancing. I’ve contacted Pearson about this. I will give full
credit for both parts after the due date. Still do them both following my directions
below so you can see if you know how to balance and get to the other parts. Balance
them and then click on “request answer”.
Part A:
You’re given the following unbalanced eqn.,
P4O10(s)+H2O(l)→H3PO4(aq)
Although it seems to be somewhat random, it’s usually showing the
answer using As in place of P in the eqn. So balance the eqn and
enter it with the P as shown. If it doesn’t accept it enter it with As
in place of the P, as if the following was what you were given,
As4O10(s)+H2O(l)→H3AsO4(aq)
Remember, things in the same group (P and As) form similar
compounds and often undergo similar reactions.
Part B:
This question has one of two reactions,
MoCl6(s)+Na2S(s)→MoS2(s)+NaCl(s)+S(s)
or
WCl6(s)+Na2S(s)→WS2(s)+NaCl(s)+S(s)
For some reason, the answer has a potassium, K, instead of
a sodium, Na. I think if you use the K in place of the Na it
will count it as correct. If not click on “request answer”.
