For 10.24(a) in the 11th, 13th & 14th editions and 10.26(a) in the 12th
edition of the textbook
states the mercury in the arm attached to the gas is 15.4 mm Hg higher
than the other arm which
is open to the atmosphere at an atmospheric pressure of 0.985 atm.

In the solution's manual in the first sentence writes it as 15.4 /cm
/and then 154 mm Hg (torr).
However, then in the solution they actually use it as 15.4 torr (15.4 mm
Hg as given in the
problem).  Thus, the answer is done correctly based on the pressures
given in the question.
