I had someone come in today to ask about #5. The answer given is
incorrect. It should be "C".
I've corrected it and uploaded the corrected file.
I'm also including some comments about a few other questions I was asked
about during the
review over the last several days. I've worked out a couple of questions.
If you look at the "Practice Final" and the Chemistry Olympiad exams
you'll see you need to know
the solubility rules (questions 43 and 16). These won't be given on the
exam.
You need to understand oxidation numbers (oxidation states) and how to
get the ox. # for an
element in a compound or polyatomic ions.
Equations aren't given either. Make sure you know the gas law eqns
(including for rms speed),
temp. conv. eqns, calorimetry eqns, eqns from chapter 6 (relations
between wavelength,
frequency and energy of a photon, Rydberg eqn, etc.).
Make sure you can name polyatomic ions, ionic and binary molecular
compounds and acids.
Constants you'll need are given, as is the periodic table.
These things I've discussed aren't all inclusive of what will be on the
final. It's just what I'm
thinking about now and what I've been asked about over the last several
days.
I highly suggest you do NOT just look at the Practice Final. Try the
Chemistry Olympiad
exams as well. Also, try retaking at least one quiz from each week
(maybe one from a
different day from your recitation), the practice midterms and your
midterms.
I will be in Wed., between about 10 and 2:30. After that I'll be
getting prepared for my
1250 final.
