[All-extension] IT Transformation February Update and IT Helpdesk Flyer

Please find attached the February IT Transformation update and an IT Helpdesk flyer that can be printed and posted near your computer to assist in quickly reaching the experts when you have a computer-related question or issue.

IT Transformation February Update
I have attached the February IT Transformation Update which includes some global updates on what is being accomplished across the college, recent customer satisfaction data for the transformation project, information about BuckeyeBox storage (for use beyond team projects), and a map demonstrating the Extension county-level status of the roll-out.

Recent Extension and other statewide campuses highlights include:


  *   Network backbone connections finalized in 42 counties; Wi-Fi complete in 29 locations
  *   Moved to OCIO Services in January: Trumbull & Columbiana
  *   Next counties to move to OCIO services: Hocking, Hamilton, Clermont
  *   Planning kicked off with the following counties: Meigs & Vinton
  *   Next counties to kick off: Washington, Noble, Jackson, Lawrence, Ag Research Western Station, Clark, Champaign, Fairfield

Choosing Computers and Preparing for Budget Discussions
If you are currently assessing computer refreshes with OCIO and want to have a better idea of what to order or what to estimate in your forthcoming commissioner budgets, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at wilkins.201 at osu.edu<mailto:wilkins.201 at osu.edu>. Typical refreshes will include one machine per person (standard Windows laptops for educators and a desktop for office associates). The computers each come with a second monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse (laptops include a docking station). If a professional is a long-time user of MACs or can make a case for having a MAC, those are available as well, given budget availability locally. Average costs for the computer packages are $900 for desktop, $1500 for a Windows laptop, and $3200 for a MAC. Full IT costs beginning FY20 will likely include computer hardware/device costs plus per person support. The cost-allocation workgroup is meeting later this week to begin finalizing costs for FY20 and beyond we should be able to provide everyone with more specifics soon.

Additional Information and Training
More information will be coming out by the end of the month related to choosing computer packages (new employees and refreshes), understanding available data storage options, and budgeting. We will also be offering a budget proposal development training in March to assist with creating a comprehensive budget for your county which includes the IT component.
