Program Assistant, 4-H Youth Development
62.5 FTE
Lorain County / Elyria, Ohio
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Program Assistant provides support to the OSU Extension office in Lorain County by assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school enrichment program in Lorain County Schools. An emphasis will be on program development, maintenance, and deliverance of 4-H projects. The Program Assistant is responsible for working with diverse partner agencies, youth participants, and community volunteers. A major focus of this position is to facilitate 4-H programming and activities in local school districts. This Program Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with reporting requirements and participating in evaluations. Position Responsibilities: 65%: Assists with facilitating school-based educational programs and activities for youth based on the 4-H model and under the direction of an OSU Extension Educator; works in a diverse range of community sites (e.g. schools, churches, recreation centers, etc.) to deliver a broad range of positive youth development programs such as real money real world financial literacy and 4-H club development. Assists with the development and implementation of volunteer training at schools and partner sites to enhance and sustain program outcomes; to assure programs/activities meet needs and expectations. 20%: Identifies and orders needed supportive materials (e.g. program supplies and materials); and prepares all activity/program materials. 10%: Performs a wide variety of administrative duties, including general record keeping, submitting information for required reports, documenting progress against anticipated outcomes, and creating print media; may assist with data input into the 4-H Access data base; and performs other administrative duties as requested. 5%: Participates as an OSU Extension Lorain County team member by participating in All-Staff conferences, professional development opportunities, and attending Extension Advisory Board meetings. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least two years' experience working with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds and in multiple settings; computer literacy in basic software applications. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends with travel throughout the county. Will be reimbursed at the University-approved mileage rate. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applied knowledge of positive youth development, youth leadership and youth in governance, and service learning; experience with 4-H and working with youth in an urban environment; ability to research and teach curriculum and perform basic administrative tasks; communicate effectively to diverse audiences; and work independently with minimal supervision.
