All ACVM Diplomates:

            The USDA is currently developing a guidance document, the Agriculture Biocontainment Compendium (ABC), which is intended to be a companion document to the 6th edition of the BMBL. This guidance document will address gaps in the BMBL regarding Agriculture-specific research and diagnostic biocontainment, specifically dealing with livestock, wildlife, terrestrial and aquatic plants and plant pests, arthropods, and aquatic animal species.

            Dr. Steve Olsen is currently building a writing team to address the ANIMALS section, and is requesting any and all who would like to contribute to contact him directly at steven.olsen at usda.gov. This is a major effort which will be made manageable by having many hands to raise this proverbial barn. While it is uncompensated (other than in the recognition of being listed as an author), this will be an important document that will define best practices in Agricultural research and teaching for several years to come. This is your opportunity to be involved in that effort and to define your future!
