GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAM AND RESIDENCY TRAINING IN VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC MICROBIOLOGY
The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB; http://www.vet.purdue.edu/cpb/index.php) and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL; http://www.addl.purdue.edu/) at Purdue University seek applications from veterinarians or veterinary students in the final year of the professional curriculum who are committed to a career in veterinary diagnostic microbiology. This challenging and rewarding three-year program culminates in a non-thesis M.S. degree and fulfills the training requirements for the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM). The program is based on supervised diagnostic microbiology service in the ADDL, graduate courses and seminars in microbiology and related disciplines, supervised teaching assignments in CPB, and a scholarly project in diagnostic or experimental microbiology.

Faculty members in CPB include board-certified microbiologists, immunologists, parasitologists, pathologists, epidemiologists, toxicologists and other scientists. Following completion of the 3-year microbiology training program, students will be encouraged to pursue PhD opportunities in areas such as infectious disease and immunology research. Purdue University is also a graduate partner in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Comparative Biomedical Scientist Training Program (http://nih-cbstp.nci.nih.gov), which provides graduate students the opportunity for residency training in a university setting followed by dissertational research at the NIH.

Applications to Purdue University Graduate School should be completed online (www.purdue.edu/gradschool/admissions/apply.cfm). Application materials, including original transcripts, letters of reference, and statement of career goals, should be received by December 10, 2019. Candidates interested in pre-screening their qualifications can submit their CV for initial review. Follow-up feedback may help applicants determine benefits of officially applying to our program. The program start date is July 1, 2020. The DVM or equivalent degree is required by the starting date. Beginning salary is $30,450 with benefits and a tuition waiver.
