Welcome to the COUNSGRADS listserv!
COUNSGRADS is an unmoderated listserv for graduate students in counselor
education. The listserv is intended to be a place for graduate students to
dialogue with each other about the topics they are learning in classes,
research they are conducting, ideas about counseling and the counseling
profession, assistance with job searches, etc. Active membership is
strongly encouraged. It is to everyone's advantage for listserv members to participate in the discussions.
COUNSGRADS was begun in June of 1997 after a discussion in a master's level
counseling practicum class at The Ohio State University. Dr. Darcy Haag
Granello, then an assistant professor of counselor education at OSU, contacted ACA to discuss the idea, and together with the assistance of the
technology services at OSU, initiated the listserv on June 10, 1997. Within 24 hours of its initial announcement on other counseling listservs, over 50 students across the country had joined in the discussion.
TODAY, there are typically about 1000-1500 members of COUNSGRADS at any given
time, and on some days more than 50 messages are sent electronically to all
of those members. So, be prepared for some messages in your inbox! Some
members decide to set up their email programs to automatically filter
COUNSGRADS into its own inbox to help manage the mail.
NEW MEMBERS are encouraged to make an introductory post about themselves
and their role in the counseling profession. Remember that everything you post to the list your message will go out to everyone - and everytime you hit the "return key" from a post, your message will go out to the entire listserv.
