I have “Whitaker’s Almanack” for 1936-8. In the Treasury section, staff with their salary ranges are listed. In the Principals grade, there are about 25 names, and they include Saxon Sydney-Turner. They are all men, except for Miss E. Whyte. The salary range in 1936 was £847-£1058 (except, of course, for Miss E. Whyte, who had her own range of £738-£905) and in 1937/8: £800-£1100 (£700-£940).
