populaire, aux côtés de Marilyn Monroe ou Lady Di ? Des essais qui ont fait date, comme celui de Brenda Silver (<i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Virginia Woolf Icon</i>), ou des œuvres récentes comme le très étonnant<i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">
Elle regarde passer les gens </i>de Anne-James Chaton, semblent le suggérer. <o:p>

"Calibri",sans-serif;mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"">Cette transformation de Woolf en icône, voire en produit dérivé, conduit à prendre acte, d’abord, d’un tournant
dans la place accordée à l’écrivain Virginia Woolf : elle n’incarne plus seulement l’écrivain national, mais devient une figure héritée d’un passé mal connu, une figure qu’on ne cesse de réimaginer. Cette logique de l’iconisation témoigne de fait d’une forme
de recyclage de la figure de l’auteur, qui, réapproprié par la culture populaire et la logique marchande, se met à vivre une nouvelle vie dans un nouvel espace de référence. Les « biofictions » contemporaines mettant en scène Virginia Woolf-écrivain devenue
personnage sont un bon exemple de pareille opération. On pourra s’interroger tant sur la nature exacte des opérations de recyclage de la figure de l’auteur, à travers des tentatives de définition ou une analyse de leurs formes, que sur sa singularité (ou son
absence de singularité) dans l’espace culturel envisagé. On pourra s’interroger également sur la spécificité du recyclage de la figure de Woolf en comparaison avec d’autres figures, ayant connu la même iconisation ou, au contraire, y ayant résisté.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

culturaliste, néanmoins, mais aussi le rapport du lecteur à l’œuvre. D’une part, cela interroge sur les effets de ces transformations sur la réception de l’œuvre. En quoi cette révision du statut de l’auteur conduit-il à relire à nouveaux frais une œuvre et,
pour ce qui nous occupe, l’œuvre de Woolf ? D’autre part, cela interroge sur les formes de l’appropriation de l’œuvre. La notion de recyclage peut-elle s’appliquer à l’œuvre comme elle s’applique à l’auteur comme produit culturel ? Si oui, en quoi se distingue-t-elle
de la réécriture, de l’adaptation, de la transposition, ou du transfert culturel ? Et peut-on l’appliquer à l’œuvre de Woolf ? Comment la culture savante répond-elle à cette appropriation de l’œuvre et de l’auteur par la culture populaire ? On pourra choisir
de favoriser une étude de cas, ou typologie, ou encore une analyse considérant le contexte épistémologique dans lequel ces transformations contemporaines se jouent et par lequel elles s’expliquent.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

shift in her<span style="color:red"> </span>status as a writer: she no longer embodies just a national writer, but transcends geographical borders and has become a figure from a little-known past that people imagine and reimagine without necessarily reading
her works. In this process of iconisation, the authorial figure is recycled and begins new lives in new referential spaces, as it is appropriated by popular culture, marketed and commercialised. The contemporary biofictions that use the figure of Virginia
Woolf and turn her into a character are a perfect example of this practice. Participants could start by discussing the notion of recycling an authorial figure, by defining and analysing its features, and establishing whether it is a culturally grounded notion,
that is to say whether it varies according to the cultural environments in which it takes place. Participants could further point out the specificity of recycling the figure of Virginia Woolf, compared to other literary figures who have undergone the same
process of iconisation, or, on the contrary, who have not been assimilated by popular culture.
