unknown portrait of Virginia Woolf from life by
the French painter Marguerite Darbour
(1865-1940). The work was most likely painted on
one of the Woolf's many visits to France during
the 1920s and 30s. The portrait remained in a
private collection in Nice, France until
recently. Marguerite Darbour (1865-1940)
exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants
from 1903 and became a member of the Société
Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1922. She
specialised in portrait and landscape subjects
and had studios in Paris and Cassis. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
