 Yes, Danell, you would think ten. But there's this line in ‘Old Bloomsbury’, two or three pages in: ‘Here then seventeen or eighteen people lived in small bedrooms with one bathroom and three water-closets between them’. This seems more realistic because it includes the servants, some of whom who were more permanent residents than the family (the men would be at work during the day; the male children were away at school and later university; Laura was sent away; Stella married).
You'll see that Woolf isn't exact about the larger figure; perhaps she should have stuck to being vague when counting her family members too.
