It is so difficult to accept the Susan is gone. The Modernist Studies Association, Modernisn/modernity, the concept of the New Modernism, and countless contributions to feminist modernist studies, all owing so much to her. He sections on H.D. and Nancy Cunard in The Gender of Modernism were vital. Most recently, I have benefitted from her expanded vision in Planetary Modernisms. All of this, and a terrific colleague and mentor.

Her creative, meticulous scholarly thinking provided a model for so many generations of readers. I was especially moved by her willingness to rethink previous positions and challenge her own conclusions through collaborative engagement with a multitude of scholars from other disciplines, reflecting an authenticity that's increasingly scarce. She will be deeply missed; condolences to her friends, family and students.
