Are you thinking perhaps of McNichol's work on the stories she published under the title Mrs Dalloway's Party? At the time there was quite a heated exchange between her and John Hulcoop in the VW Miscellany (an invaluable historical record!), and the story of those stories continued with the publication of the 'Mrs Dalloway Reader' later. I assume anything she transcribed re the novel drafts informed her notes for the Penguin edition.

Thanks to everyone who reminded me (as I had forgotten a dozen years after last looking at it) that Helen Wussow’s edition does in fact include the Berg material. It would still be interesting to learn what might have happened to Stella McNichol’s work, as it seems to have been very admirable.
