[Vwoolf] Jigsaw puzzle w/ Virginia Woolf

I don’t think VW would have coloured her hair. Presumably, VW’s hair lightened and thinned due to age, environmental factors such as stress, illness, poor diet as well as exposure to sunlight. If her hair was a rather non-descript brown, then it would also be more prone to lighten.  As Bogarde described her hair does appear wispy in photos from the 20s onwards.
Her eyes look brown in some contemporary Bloomsbury Group paintings and hazel in others.

Good to know about Ray Strachey's painting.

Guessing the colors in black and white photography is always a gamble—dark blonde and pale brown hair shades can be misinterpreted as can red, dark brown and black.

Several paintings by Vanessa Bell show Virginia's hair as rather dark brown...

I wonder whether Woolf had dyed or lightened her hair around the time when Ray Strachey did the painting.
