[Darbour_woolf_portrait_artwork] Painted c. 1920s Oil on canvas. 28.5 x 23.5 inches. Signed and inscribed with title to the revere. Provenance: The Artist?s Estate; Private collection, Nice An extremely rare and hitherto unknown portrait of Virginia Woolf from life by the French painter Marguerite Darbour (1865-1940). In this episode, NYPL?s Carolyn Vega will speak with literary scholar and professor Urmila Seshagiri about Virginia Woolf?s groundbreaking novel *Jacob?s Room*, first published in 1922. One hundred years after its publication, Woolf 's first full-length work of experimental fiction pulls us into the inexhaustible mysteries of intimacy and mortality. Vega and Seshagiri will explore Woolf?s daring work that reimagines every element of the traditional novel. (Writing from the train; forgive the less than beautiful text.) Enjoy! I thought I'd read somewhere that Virginia destroyed Violet's letters to her (for unknown reasons) some time close to her death, and so we only have Virginia's side of the correspondence. But now I can't find that citation where I thought it was in the intro to Virginia's collected letters...so I'm wondering if this is a fabricated memory of reading that I have. >> >> Thanks for any thoughts or information you have! >> all best, >> Michaela >> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
