In case any list members aren't familiar with Fathom Events, they screen live performances from the Met and other theatrical venues in local movie theaters.  They also show older films billed as classics although that descriptor may be subject to debate in some cases.

The live performance of The Hours is screening on December 10 with an Encore showing on December 14.  You can search for the theater closest to your location on the Fathom Events website.

When three women from different eras grapple with their inner demons and their roles in society, they find that they have more in common than they ever could’ve imagined.

Separated by time and space, Virginia Woolf, Laura Brown, and Clarissa Vaughan feel as though they are trapped by the worlds they live in. Virginia, a troubled writer, longs for the bustle of her beloved London while drafting her novel Mrs. Dalloway, depressed by the lifeless suburbs of Richmond, England. Meanwhile, Laura, a 1940s housewife, reads the very sentences that Virginia writes, all to temporarily escape the dread of her wifely and motherly duties. Finally, the contemporary Clarissa prepares a celebration for her dying friend, whose dire state is something that she can’t bring herself to accept. As each heroine travels through her day feeling alone, their intersecting stories ultimately trace a poignant human experience, including shared struggles with sexuality, mortality, and regret.

Experience this powerful world-premiere production—headlined by stars Renée Fleming, Joyce DiDonato, and Kelli O’Hara and conducted by Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin—live from the Metropolitan Opera stage to cinemas on Saturday, December 10, with encores Wednesday, December 14.
